Moorabool leisure facility and outdoor pools contract

Wednesday nights Moorabool Shire Council decision to award the contract for the management of Bacchus Marsh Lesiure Centre, Bacchus Marsh Outdoor Pool and Ballan Outdoor Pool  to another provider has shocked the YMCA.  There is some comfort in knowing that when the Y leaves the contract at the end of June they have contributed much to the social fabric of the Moorabool community.

The YMCA has been involved in the Moorabool community for 15 years and is grateful for the relationship and opportunity that the Moorabool Shire and Bacchus Marsh Secondary College have given the Y during this time to provide the people of Bacchus Marsh with programs that make them in grow in body, mind and spirit.

 Chief Executive YMCA Victoria, Peter Burns today said "it is with a great deal of sadness that the Y will no longer be deliverying community strengthening health and wellness programs to the Moorabool community from 30 June. We are very proud of the contribution our dedicated staff team have made to the health and lives of its members and community".  Peter went on to say" that the legacy we have left the new provider is one that has seen memberships grow to in excess of 700, introduction of new programs such as Spinning, Kid Fit, Challenge Fitness Camps and a near capacity junior basketball competition" .

The highlights over time have been;

.       the ability to develop a staff team that has seen 95% recruited locally and in the past 12 months provided professional development that has seen 5 casuals move into team leader or co-ordinate roles.

.      the creation of more than 20 community partnerships

.      and a committment to the community in providing support for Deb Balls, Freeza Youth Events and supporting Outside School Hours Care Programs.

Peter added "that we thank both the Moorabool Shire Council and Bacchus Marsh Secondary College for the partnership over the past 15 years and we will be assisting the new managers in the transition so that members are not disrupted."

The YMCA will be in communication with all members and users in the coming weeks.
